The Basics

If you've been thrown from the fitness horse and want to get back on, here are some basic guidelines to keep in mind when launching into the saddle. F.I.T.T F - Frequency: You need to exercise at least 3 - 5 times per week for optimal results. I - Intensity: The exercise you undertake must raise your heart rate to the 60 - 85% heart rate zone. This can be worked out by logging on to the following website which uses the Karvonen Formula - www.livelongbestrong.com/resources/karvonen.htm T - Time: Each session needs to be at least 30min in duration. T - Type: Use large muscle groups eg. quads, buttocks and shoulders, in a rythmical movement to achieve best results.
